Greetings from Atlanta! I'm currently on layover hell, still nauseous from last night's election (I mean, really guys? That guy? The one who brags about sexually assaulting women? The one who once tried to build a basement on a beach?), and waiting for my flight out to San Francisco. Since the world is going to end (really, you elected that guy?), I might as well explore first, right?
Sunday was my last "long" run before Rock N Roll Vegas. It was 6 semi-painful miles, followed by a day of watching the NYC Marathon and wishing I was there.
To be honest, my training the past few weeks has been kind of lacking. After the Marine Corps Half, I took about a week off because of a really bad muscle ache in my quad that made it difficult to even walk my dog. Then I went to New York for Halloween, and had lots of food and booze.
Where does that leave us for Vegas? Well, I don't know. There are a few things working in my favor (I always do better running at night, it's an exciting course, and it won't be 100 degrees and sunny like I'm used to running in), and a few working against me (it's the day after my brother's wedding, and I'll be running my first destination race.)
So what are my goals? My PR is a 2:08, and I'm fairly confident that I'm not going to beat that. Sure, anything can happen, but I'm going to err on the conservative (ugh, really, you elected that guy?) side and shoot for a sub 2:20. That would put me about 10 minutes faster than the Marine Corps Half, which I believe is doable given the race conditions.
