Happy Monday from the future home of a foot of snow. They're calling for a really bad blizzard to hit us starting tonight, so I'm hunkered down with plenty of blankets, coffee, and pancake ingredients. Now I just hope we don't lose power!
I decided to start doing some recap posts of things that have been going on in my life. Maybe this way, I'll be inspired to do things that are worthy of blogging. I've been trying to find something on my Bucket List to do, but since it's been so cold out my motivation has been a bit out the window.
Speaking of lack of motivation. On Thursday night I finally gave in to cravings and went to McDonald's. It was basically a low point in my year.
It was a "treat yo self" kinda night. I found my favorite ice cream at the drugstore, and also picked up some new nail polish - I am aware I'm about 8 years overdue for a manicure.
On Friday it snowed a little bit during the day. The only thing I'm excited about for tomorrow is taking pictures of the area in the snow. The Forest Hills train station is so pretty, and in the snow it's going to be even better. Look forward to those tomorrow!
Truth be told, I've been having a rough few weeks up here. It's really, really difficult to settle into a new area. Between the weather, my job, and just not having many people to hang out with, I've been super down. My mom and one of my friends gave me a good pep talk, so I decided to tackle one thing at a time. I started off Saturday with a somewhat healthy breakfast - a goat cheese omelette, potatoes, bacon, and coffee.
I truly think the biggest reason for my blah few weeks has been the fact that it's been so cold outside. When I first started running, I did it in the cold all the time. Now, even the 40s are "too cold" for me. I know I'm being a wuss about it, so I dragged myself to the gym to at least run on the treadmill. I didn't get into the NYC Marathon this year via the lottery, so I've been up in the air about finding a race to train for. For now, I'm going to stick to trying to PR the half marathon in the fall. NYRR has plenty of races that I can shoot for, so I at least have some motivation now.
After running and doing strength training, I met up with my roommate Kyla for some shopping. We had to find her a dress (mission accomplished!) and get some last-minute things for our Purim party that night!
We followed this recipe to make Hamantashen with our other roommate Becky and her friend. It was kind of a disaster at first...
But, eventually we got it! We made three different kinds - apricot, strawberry, and Nutella. The Nutella ones were (obviously) the best ones of all, and I'm sorry we didn't make more.
You can read more about Purim here - I had actually never heard of it until this year. It's a big celebration in the Jewish religion, which explains the beads and cookies. Even Cookie had fun!
We played Skewered and Roasted - think Cards Against Humanity, but a little dirtier. By the way, the answer here is obviously plaid shirt. I ended up being a baby and passing out around midnight, just in time to lose an hour for Daylight Savings Time.
On Sunday I got myself out the door for another workout, complete with these snazzy socks. I ran a few miles on the treadmill, and then did a full leg workout. For some reason, I can't take full rest days. I think once I do, I end up overeating and feeling really lazy about myself. Is anyone else the same way?
My job had a charity breakfast for No Kid Hungry today at work, so after doing some meal prep for the week, I made a batch of brownies. These had Nutella mixed in, plus some candy chips on the top. They were a hit (duh), and my first time baking in a little while. I actually haven't much of a reason to bake lately, since everyone at my office eats very healthy. I'll find reasons to bake things - my blog could definitely use the recipes!
